About Janis Akuna

I am Janis Akuna and I’m seeking an At-Large seat on the Hawaii Board of Education.  I’m running to ensure that all of Hawaii’s children have access to the same quality public school education that got me where I am today, a wealth advisor for one of Hawaii’s largest international investment firms.  In addition to my career, I have spent my life looking for ways to effectively serve my community, to give something back as I know many of you do. 

Serving as a member of the School Council and as Chairperson of the Hawaii Hurricane Relief Fund as well as on numerous non-profit boards, I have gained invaluable management experience to complement my extensive financial background.  Like you, I’m frustrated by the lack of vision and leadership at one of our State’s most important institutions, the Board of Education.  I am determined to do all that I can to help deliver to the students of Hawaii’s public school system the education they deserve because in my professional experience, education is truly the best “investment” we can make in our future.
